Cost of Laminate Countertop Installation
There are several factors that will impact the cost of installing laminate counterops. Use the information below to get a better idea of how much you should pay for your countertop project.
1. Where you live. Your geographic location can be an important cost factor. The cost of installation tends to be higher in large metropolitan areas like New York City and Los Angeles.
2. Removal of existing countertop. The removal and disposal of your existing countertops will increase the total cost of installation.
3. Prefab vs. Custom. Prefabricated sections of laminate countertop can be purchased from your local hardware store. However, the selection will be limited and pieces are only available in a few standards sizes. Custom laminate countertops will be more expensive, but there will be fewer seams.
4. Amount of material needed. Most contractors will base their quote on the square footage of the countertops.
5. Backsplash. Laminate countertops with a built-in backsplash tend to be more expensive. However, many other backsplash options are available. The contractor may also be able to install a tile backsplash for an additional cost.
6. Countertop thickness. The standard thickness is 1.5 inches; however, other options are available. Thicker countertops will be more expensive.
7. Type of Laminate. There are two main types of laminate countertops: high-pressure and low-pressure. High-pressure laminates (or HPLs) are typically more expensive than low-pressure laminates (LPLs). However, HPLs are more durable and these countertops will last much longer.
8. Laminate quality. Solid color laminates tend to be the most affordable option. Laminates that replicate the look of natural stones (like quartz and granite) tend to be more expensive. Upgraded finishes will also increase the cost of the countertops.
9. Type of Edge. A standard straight edge or bullnose will be included in the cost of installation. However, a decorative ogee, beveled, or crescent edge will cost a little extra.
10. Sink installation. Installing a sink or faucet will also increase the cost of the countertop project.
